Managing Director, Sales & Marketing Division
Mark Tilson is Managing Director of the Sales & Marketing Division of JMI Sports, providing revenue enhancement strategies that help collegiate and professional sports properties to improve internal capabilities and maximize profits from ticket sales, marketing and advertising operations.
As Managing Director, Tilson works in partnership with clients to implement various initiatives such as building outbound sales teams, adopting dynamic or variable pricing, developing targeted prospecting plans, integrating CRM systems, improving hiring and training methods, and monetizing in-game production elements. His sales and marketing expertise serves to assist any sports organization in reaching their short and long term goals.
Tilson has an extraordinary track record of increasing revenues, maximizing attendance and orchestrating successful sales and marketing campaigns for new and renovated sports facilities. Before joining JMI Sports, he served from 2009 to 2012 as Senior Vice President for the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium. During his tenure, the Dolphins achieved the highest revenue total for ticket sales and premium seating in the organization’s history and the season ticket base grew to over 50,000 for the first time since 2007.
Prior to working in the NFL, Tilson was Vice President of MLB’s Kansas City Royals, where he led sales and marketing efforts tied to the $250 million renovation of Kauffman Stadium. In his three-year span from 2007 to 2009, the Royals grew revenues by over 65% and experienced the highest attendance mark in 16 years. Tilson previously worked as Vice President of MLB’s Washington Nationals, managing the club’s ticket sales and marketing efforts in preparation for the relocation to Nationals Park. Tilson began his professional sports career in 1995 and spent over 10 years with MLB’s San Diego Padres. He oversaw the team’s sales efforts for the transition from Qualcomm Stadium to Petco Park, during which the Padres secured over $120 million in premium seating revenue and grew the season ticket base to over 20,000, the largest in club history.
Tilson earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Politics from Columbia University, where he also played basketball and earned All-Ivy League honors in track and field. He and his wife Brooke have two children, Dylan and Wyatt, and reside in San Diego, Calif.
