JMI Sports Announces Two Executive Promotions

Company cites continued growth and team member accomplishments

JMI Sports – February 4th, 2019

Citing continued growth and momentum, including the acquisition of multi-media rights for some of America’s top college sports programs, JMI Sports has promoted Paul Archey to chief commercial officer of the company, and Kim Shelton to president of the UK Sports & Campus Marketing multi-media rights property.

In his new role, Archey will be responsible for developing strategic partnerships across the spectrum of JMI Sports’ expanding portfolio to increase revenue and create bold new opportunities for the company and its partners. Shelton will lead the Kentucky team as they focus on continuing the tremendous growth that the property has experienced, deepening relationships with partners and the university alike to deliver an ever-improving experience to Wildcat fans. Revenues have more than doubled at the UK property since 2015.

“2018 was an unprecedented year of success for JMI Sports and for our college sports properties in particular,” said JMI Sports CEO Erik Judson. “In football alone, we are proud to represent not only National Champion Clemson, but also Kentucky and our joint venture properties of Notre Dame and Georgia, who all ranked inside the Top 10 during the season. Just as our partner schools consistently demonstrate excellence, JMI Sports will continually strive to be our best. We have always placed an emphasis on putting exceptional people in place. These well-deserved promotions for Archey and Shelton are indicative of how JMI Sports is committed to a strategic growth plan to improve and expand our business.”

Paul Archey is a former Major League Baseball executive who has overseen the transformation of the University of Kentucky Athletics multi-media rights into a thriving total campus partnership. Under Archey’s guidance ground-breaking sponsorships and unprecedented revenue growth have been accomplished – including the first-ever corporate naming rights for an SEC football stadium with Kroger Field. In this role he will be positioned to drive to the company’s overall growth, leveraging his strengths in sales, relationship building, and developing and launching creative new ideas.

“I am extremely excited for this opportunity to expand my role on the JMI Sports team,” said Archey. “I greatly appreciate the confidence Erik has placed in me to have a broader effect on the growth of our company. Working across all properties will allow me to use my experience and skills to advance the business objectives of our partner schools and the critically important brands that see the value in collegiate athletics.” Shelton, a 20-year sports marketing professional, has been instrumental in building the UK property into one of the country’s most lucrative properties. Her extensive experience developing and delivering innovative sponsorship opportunities bodes well for the continued growth of the partnership.

“Working alongside Paul, Kim and the entire JMI Sports team has been a privilege the last five years and we are proud of the innovative partnership we have built over that time,” Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart said. “I know Paul and Kim will excel in their new roles and we are excited to see the impact they will continue to make on the University of Kentucky.”

“My passion for UK is clear,” stated Shelton. “As a former Wildcat student-athlete, it is an honor and privilege to take on this role. There’s no position I could imagine that would better connect my personal and professional life so seamlessly. To lead our team in the partnership with UK, their fan base, and corporate sponsors is an opportunity I both appreciate and embrace.”

JMI Sports is a full-service collegiate marketing firm, providing the highest quality management of athletic media rights. Their innovative Total Campus Marketing Program maximizes the economic potential of universities. Under JMI Sport’s leadership, University of Kentucky has secured naming rights for their football and baseball stadiums, brokered a 15-year multi-media deal with Rupp Arena and driven total revenues to among the top tier in the country.

“These promotions are clear examples of how our team will continue to expand to impact current and future ventures for JMI Sports,” concluded Judson. “There’s more to come!”
