The external review is over for Auburn’s athletics department, but director Jay Jacobs’ organization will still be monitored moving forward.
JMI Sports, a consulting company founded by San Diego Padres owner John Moores, has worked with Auburn’s athletics department since December. Jacobs said JMI offers suggestions on how the athletics department can do things better.
“We’re one of the first institutions — if not the first institution — where they’ve actually come in and they’re looking at all operations,” Jacobs said. “Sometimes they’ll come in and just look at your ticket operation, sometimes they’ll come in and just look at your strategic plan for your facilities, sometimes they’ll come in and just look at your organizational chart.
“We’ve asked them to come in and look at everything that we do. They have a great team of people with different backgrounds and professions and capabilities. It’s been great working with them and we’ll continue to work with them throughout the rest of the year.”
An external review of Auburn’s athletics department concluded last week, and Jacobs addressed the six-person committee’s findings Tuesday morning at the Auburn Chamber of Commerce. JMI is different than the external review, Jacobs said, because it looks at more than the specific areas outlined by Auburn University president Jay Gogue.
Other teams that have consulted with JMI include Alabama, North Carolina and Oregon, as well as the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds.
