Director, Sponsorship Sales

JMI Sports is seeking an experienced sales professional who can conceptualize, develop, and secure corporate sponsorships for the following properties: Columbia University Athletics, Harvard University Athletics and a soon-to-be-announced property located in New York City. The successful candidate will work with each property as well as the Northeast region sales team to create innovative opportunities for prospective sponsors that maximize exposure and drive revenue. Strong relationships with senior level corporate decision makers is critically important. Must be extremely comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. This full-time position will be located in the New York City metro area.


  • Collaborate with Company leadership on unique strategies to increase revenues on each property
  • Conceptualize and develop compelling sponsorship packages to maximize exposure and results for sponsors
  • Develop professional marketing relationships with sponsors and affiliated agencies through consultative sales strategies, objective-based programming and elevated white glove service
  • Create a research based prospect pipeline and sales outreach strategy that cultivates industries and companies for sponsorship opportunities
  • Secure and conduct face-to-face sales meetings by leveraging relationships and cold calling
  • Collaborate with internal team members and external partners to ideate, develop, and pitch strategic marketing platforms for new prospects and sponsors
  • Negotiate and close sponsorship deals and work with legal counsel through contract execution
  • Oversee industry and competitive analysis to highlight category trends and competitive dynamics
  • Maintain detailed CRM records of all prospects, sales activities, contracts, and fulfillment
  • Develop, create and present professional activation execution plans, working collaboratively with each property to ensure proper delivery of all promised benefits
  • Assist in coordinating and implementing hospitality events and initiatives
  • Develop and distribute year-end reviews and renewal/upsell presentations
  • Contribute innovative and impactful thoughts or actions to boost revenues for Company and assigned properties


  • 7+ years of successful sponsorship sales experience
  • Key relationships with senior level marketing executives with national/regional brands
  • Understanding of sponsorship sales, event marketing and activation, as well as media/advertising buys
  • Understanding and appreciation for university procurement procedures and policies
  • Experience in developing, pricing and managing sales of bundled assets
  • Excellence in pitching, negotiating and closing high-value, multi-year sponsorship deals
  • Ability to communicate value of sponsorship vs. pure media as a marketing solution
  • Ability to develop creative proposals that meet and exceed potential partners’ needs
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with senior level property staff
