Carrier Johnson + CULTURE
In 2009, California State University, Bakersfield was planning for exponential growth of its student population and preparing for its first season of Division 1 Baseball. The University was therefore actively evaluating long-term solutions for accommodating its many new students and new team. Given a tremendous opportunity to shape their campus for the next twenty years and maximize student, faculty and community benefit, a primary goal of CSUB’s planning process was to unify the campus, by connecting the northern academic buildings to the southern public-private portion. Public-private development opportunities were also being explored by the University to capitalize on the synergistic relationships between the school, the proposed ballpark and private businesses.
JMI Sports was engaged by the University of California, Bakersfield to provide conceptual master planning services. With assistance from Carrier Johnson Architects, JMI Sports performed a thorough evaluation of the existing campus and adjacent private development. During this pre-planning stage, many important planning elements were studied including: campus unification, sports facility integration, public/private project opportunities, traffic, parking and infrastructure. JMI Sports delivered a final report documenting our findings and summarizing our planning recommendations, which included cost and schedule estimates for a new baseball facility, academic buildings and parking structures. Additionally, our team provided a conceptual site plan and an illustrative programmatic model to further aid the University in making these long term decisions.
We will ensure your plan is executed on time and on budget, while maximizing the economic potential of your institution.
