San Diego State Aztecs
In partnership with Legends, JMI Sports was contracted by San Diego State University to oversee the design and construction of the new Aztec stadium located on the old Qualcomm site in Mission Valley, San Diego. JMI Sports has worked closely with SDSU from the inception of this transformative project from early feasibility studies, site master planning and the development of a stadium business model to overseeing the selection of the general contractor and architect, the evolution of design documents and the construction budget.
JMI Sports worked closely with San Diego State University, development partners and the design team to help create a vision for the future development of the Qualcomm site. In partnership with the university team, we hired an urban planning firm and sports architect to assist us in developing a master plan and analyzing the optimal stadium placement within the site to ensure that the stadium: allowed efficient ingress and egress for vehicular access, worked with the existing site constraints and utilities, offered prime visibility to major thoroughfares for a potential naming rights partner, and created a connection with proposed ancillary development that would activate the site year-round and provide a needed funding source.
As part of our efforts, JMI Sports oversaw the creation of a feasibility study to review detailed programming desires, conceptual design ideas and objectives for the new stadium and associated parking in order to ensure that the size of the stadium, as dictated by their programming needs, would fit in our newly proposed stadium footprint and meet objectives relative to future NFL or MLS tenants.
Following the completion of the feasibility study and a successful ballot initiative, JMI Sports partnered with Legends to offer Development Management and Sales and Sponsorship related services including the selection of the project Architect and general contractor, development of a revenue model and the oversight of the design documents, project budget and schedule. As the project enters the construction phase, JMI Sports and Legends will shift to a construction management role while working closely with the sales and sponsorship teams to maximize revenue generation.
