PROJECT OVERVIEW

The NBA’s Golden State Warriors are privately financing the design and construction of a new 18,000-seat arena named the Chase Center. Situated on an 11-acre site in San Francisco’s Mission Bay, the multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue is planned within an ancillary development of approximately 700,000 square feet of office and retail projects, over three acres of public plazas and nearly 1,000 parking spaces. In addition to professional basketball, the arena will host top-name musical acts, conventions, awards shows, major cultural events and other sporting events. The main plaza for the complex will also facilitate a variety of activities for visitors and neighbors year-round including outdoor ice skating, exhibition games, farmer’s markets and art fairs. Centrally located and near a myriad of transportation options, the Chase Center will be a spectacular new home for the championship basketball team, serving fans from across the Bay Area.

OUR ROLE

JMI Sports served as a project manager for the Golden State Warriors on the development of the new arena, office towers, restaurants/retail venues, public plazas and underground garage. JMI Sports represented the Warriors’ interests, while collaborating with the entire project team on all facets of the design and pre-construction process. In this role, JMI Sports was responsible for managing the evolution of the design of many project elements, the overall construction cost budget for the entire project in addition to detailed costs on every project element, analysis of contractor pricing and identification of value engineering opportunities. In addition, JMI Sports spearheaded a number of significant peer review efforts on the project to validate construction costs, structural design and construction means and methods. JMI Sports was in charge of the development of the office towers, working closely with the Warrior’s office development partner and the office tower tenant to ensure that their needs were being met while keeping the design on track and costs in budget.
